The scarcity of block space gave rise to a fee market, and Bitcoin's decentralized design lets users compete through fee bidding to decide whose transactions get confirmed first. Now that full RBF has been fully deployed, this research report revisits the trade-offs between RBF and CPFP, and traces how RBF evolved from a contested proposal into today's consensus.
